Ivan Medew
woodturner
Ivan began woodturning when he retired to Bribie Island following a
long career in education and several years as a real estate agent on Macleay Island.
Woodturning has become a passion.
“Watching the shavings stream from the tip of the chisel as the wood spins on the
lathe revealing the form being created and the unique grain and texture of the timber
is a truly wonderful experience. Each piece of wood is different, each with its
own character and colour, each piece of crafted wood stands alone.”
Many of Ivan’s original pieces have been enhanced by the addition of other materials
or have contrasting timbers joined to compliment the shape and form of the article.
Ivan is a member of the Bribie and District Woodcrafters Association and the Bribie
island Community Arts Society. He is self taught and has won several awards for
his work.
